This sector’s constantly changing regulations and complex tax treatments demands specialist knowledge, and a pro-active approach. The new Charities Act makes that even more important, with the Charity Commission imposing extra demands.

Our charities, education & not-for-profit sector team is led by Joe Scaife – one of the South West’s best known experts in the sector. Joe is one of very few practitioners to have attained the charity sector’s specialist qualification.

While the team’s experienced audit managers deliver seamless compliance and technical advice, we bring added value with our extended team of experts. Our VAT specialist, Dave Brown, for example, has saved or retrieved huge sums for charity and not-for-profit clients.

Our services include:

Audit of year end accounts in accordance with International Standards on Auditing
Advising charities on setting and achieving strategic objectives, in conjunction with the Summary Information Return
Providing assistance to clients in advance of Charity Commission Review Visits
Reorganising and restructuring group activities
Assistance with grant claims and applications
Advice on accounting systems and internal controls
Advice on, amongst other things, risk management, recruitment of trustees, reserves and the use of trading subsidiaries
Advising on the implications of new legislation or accounting practices before they must be implemented
Providing assistance and guidance to trustees regarding their responsibilities under the Charities Act and the SORP
Advising on the merger or break-up of different charitable organisations
Independent examinations and audit exemption reports for charities where applicable

We also do internal audit work for education clients and get involved with Teachers Pension Scheme audits for a number of schools.

		Joe is a widely recognised specialist in advising charities & not-for-profit organisations (like private schools), and professional partnerships (especially law firms). He is a regular speaker at seminars for both these sectors.
