What sets Tim apart?
Tim is an experienced audit and general practice partner, advising and servicing a wide range of commercial and not-for-profit organisations.
Being a Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA), as well as a Chartered Accountant (FCA), he is very well placed to work closely with our tax specialists, combining their advice with his commercial and accounting experience to identify and implement solutions for clients. Being totally client focussed, he likes nothing more than to help clients fulfil their aims and ambitions.
His significant not-for-profit portfolio includes charities and education establishments. He was amongst the early candidates to be awarded the specialist Diploma in Charity Accounting (DChA) after the qualification’s launch. He is secretary to the grant-making charity, Northcott Devon Medical Foundation and is trustee/treasurer of the £1.5m income charity, Age UK Exeter.
Tim is a lead partner in respect of the firm’s financial services clients that are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Other commercial clients are from a broad range of sectors, covering building trades, caravan parks, care homes, farming, holiday lets, manufacturing, publishing, professional services, property development and investment, retail, software development and wholesale. Internationally, he has UK clients that are US owned and clients operating overseas subsidiaries.
Tim is a representative of the ESFA Academies finance and assurance Working Group 3, who support the ESFA Steering Group in its work programme to enable the ESFA, DFE and Academy Trusts to work collaboratively. Tim’s group is focused on the development of the Academies Accounts Direction, reviewing outcomes from the main strands of ESFA assurance work, development of sector guidance and liaison with DfE and ESFA to improve capability and financial awareness amongst trusts seeking to grow.
Tim was appointed as a Trustee and Treasurer of Age UK Exeter just over five years ago, after we undertook a search for a local accountant active in the charity sector. Since his appointment, he has supported our finance staff to streamline our accounting processes to facilitate the production of accurate and reliable monthly management accounts such that we no longer have year-end audit adjustments. He deals with a huge range of ad hoc queries covering accounting treatments, banking and finance, tax, VAT as well as longer term strategic planning. His advice in respect of the presentation of accounts and other financial information to the outside world has been really helpful. His knowledge of the regulatory regimes surrounding charities is very extensive and invaluable to us. We have also benefitted from the specialist support that he has from within his own firm. Tim has an easy-going manner and the very valuable ability to communicate complicated financial information in a way than non-specialists can readily understand and act on. He is a huge asset to the charity.
