Bishop Fleming welcomes accountants of the future

Bishop Fleming invited local sixth formers to apply for a place on the specially structured work experience week.
During the week, the students used an interactive toolkit devised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) as an introduction to financial statements, along with activities such as:

• Meeting experts in different specialisms, from tax to corporate finance;
• Finding out about the role of the Marketing and Training functions;
• Developing skills such as team building, communication and interview skills.
• Working as a team, and presenting back on their experience of the week;

Alison Dale, Senior Learning and Development Manager, points out that the week is not only of value to the students but also benefits the firm: “The work experience week is great for us too. It helps us to keep in touch with what is happening in education and encourages us to constantly review our processes to reflect new skillsets and different ways of thinking. The students have been consistently impressive in the way they approach the tasks given to them. The programme also helps us to identify future employees, as it gives us time to really get to know the students.”
