Round The World Challenge

Introduction

We've completed our Round The World Challenge!

In July 2021, we came up with the idea to virtually circumnavigate the globe, with the objective to bring our people together (albeit virtually), promoting health and wellbeing, and reaching out to our international connections. And so the Bishop Fleming Round The World Challenge was born.

We had no idea how many of our team and clients would take part, and how long it would take us, so we set the target for one year. It actually took us five months (pretty much to the day), all 39,896 miles of it…the Bishop Fleming Round The World Challenge is complete.

The team has posted nearly 7200 hours - or put another way – 300 days’ worth of activities. We averaged 254 miles per day and achieved over 2.1million feet in elevation.

Our 40,000-mile journey has taken in six continents, 31 countries and we passed over 18 Kreston members firms - many of whom like Kreston Romania have really got behind the challenge with several team members taking part.

Thank you to everyone that participated in the challenge. Every step has counted, and we hope those who joined us, have enjoyed being part of the initiative.

How it worked

We used an innovative online platform called Challenge Hound that aggregated the activities undertaken by our people.

The flexibility of our challenge was what made it so inclusive. Any activity that can be measured was included, such as walking, hiking, running, cycling, swimming, rowing or even roller-blading, meaning it appealed to people of all abilities.

Literally every step counted.

Our objectives

We wanted to give our people an overarching challenge that incentivised a range of activities that our people, contacts and clients can get involved in together across our business. But the challenge also had several other important objectives:

  1. It promoted Health and Wellbeing by encouraging our people to get walking, running, cycling, rowing, swimming or any other activities that can be measured
  2. It generated activities and fundraising for our communities as part of our commitment to being a responsible business as a member of Business In The Community
  3. We involved our clients, contacts and intermediaries in our challenge, cementing our relationship with them.
  4. We were able to foster better relations with fellow Kreston firms that we virtually visit along the way.
