Can I recover the VAT if my debtors don’t pay?

If you issue a sales invoice with VAT and the debtor doesn’t pay you can reclaim VAT which has been declared on the amount outstanding 6 months after the payment terms have expired. This does not apply to businesses which account for VAT on a cash basis.
