The organisers of Plymouth Harbour Runs have announced Bishop Fleming, one of the UK’s leading accountancy firms as the official sponsor of the Plymouth Harbour 10k.
Local charity, Devon Mind has launched the active challenge event, Plymouth Harbour Runs, in partnership with men’s health charity, Chestnut Appeal.
The partnership comes as Bishop Fleming supports Devon Mind throughout the year as one of its chosen charities, raising money through several fundraising activities.
Offering unique running experiences centred around Plymouth’s famous Sutton Harbour, the Plymouth Harbour 10K and Plymouth Harbour Half provide opportunities for local running enthusiasts to come together to improve their wellbeing, and raise much-needed money and awareness for two charities based in Plymouth.
With the funds raised through the events, Devon Mind plan to develop crossover services alongside co-organiser the Chestnut Appeal to meet the mental health needs of men across Devon living with prostate cancer, testicular cancer, or penile cancer.
Harriet Reynolds, Tax Executive and Wellbeing Champion at Bishop Fleming, comments: “We are delighted to be sponsoring the Plymouth Harbour 10K to support Devon Mind and the Chestnut Appeal. As a South West based firm we felt it was the perfect event to get involved with to demonstrate our commitment to supporting our communities, especially as the route passes our Plymouth office on Sutton Harbour.
“The run provides a great fundraising opportunity for both charities and we are looking forward to bringing a team of runners to be a part of this. It is a pleasure to help raise money and awareness for such worthwhile and vital causes, and we look forward to supporting them with this event.”
The run will take place on October 16, starting at Mount Batten, following a 10k scenic route around the harbour, finishing with a drink at Rocket & Rascals, and a ferry trip back to the car.
Speaking about the excitement of launching its first ever active challenge event, Marketing & Fundraising Manager Andre Pusey states: “This is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, and with the events expertise of our colleagues at the Chestnut Appeal, now is the perfect time to go for it! Lots of people and organisations looking to support the fight for mental health across Devon have asked us for an event like this, so we’re really excited to be able to bring them the Plymouth Harbour Runs.”
Chestnut Appeal’s Events & Campaigns Manager David Squires adds: “We’re delighted to be teaming up with Devon Mind on this fantastic, unique event. Raising awareness of physical and mental health whilst taking on this 10km challenge is a perfect fit.”
Both events are non-competitive, focused entirely on fundraising and community participation. In addition, everyone who enters and completes the Plymouth Harbour 10K in October will be entered into a free prize draw, which will take place shortly after the event.
