A benefit is for life not just for Christmas

13th December 2021

The third webinar from our dedicated Employer Solutions Team held on 1 December 2021 covered the 12 Benefits of Christmas that may have an enduring merit.

The 55-minute webinar provides you with everything you need to know on incentivising employees, whilst avoiding a visit from a HMRC Scrooge this Christmas!

COVID rules - working from home and Christmas parties

If, because of the new COVID-19 guidelines to work from home, you had to cancel the Christmas party, HMRC has previously confirmed that virtual parties also qualify for the same tax-free allowance as physical parties, provided certain conditions are met.

The 12 Benefits

Our panel of expert speakers discussed a range of benefits, including the following topics:

  • Benefits strategy

  • Staff entertainment and Christmas parties

  • Staff gifts and vouchers; use of business assets

  • Health and wellbeing, including flexible working, gym memberships, yoga sessions, etc.

  • Staff uniforms and protective clothing

  • Pensions, salary sacrifice and financial advice

  • Environmental concerns for decision making, including electric cars and cycle to work schemes

  • Q&As - the cost of employee pensions advice - salary sacrifice and the National Minimum Wage - private mileage with electric cars - events open to all - gift of airpods - capital allowances on electric cars - tickets to attend sporting events.

One issue that the pandemic has highlighted is the greater focus by employees on the benefits they receive, including whether there is the opportunity to work more flexibly.

As employers seek to retain and recruit staff in an increasingly competitive marketplace, giving careful consideration to the benefits - over and above salary - can reap rewards for the long term for both employer and employee.
