Bishop Fleming has launched a major new responsible business initiative – 1% for Communities – a pledge to give back 1% of its turnover through impactful, community-focused volunteering, fundraising and related activities.

The 1% for Communities initiative aims to support local communities, foster employee engagement, and contribute to meaningful causes, while underpinning the firm’s ambition to be the most rewarding accountancy firm in the UK for its clients, people, and communities.
Fleur Lewis, Partner and Responsible Business Lead at Bishop Fleming, commented:
“As a responsible business, our people deliver a huge programme of community-based activities, whether it is giving blood, working with charities, or maintaining a position of responsibility such as Trusteeship within our community organisations. Combined with hundreds of hours of volunteering, fundraising events and activities, we collectively deliver community value running into hundreds of thousands of pounds each year.
But we have a real determination to drive this better. So, our new 1% for Communities commitment will provide the ongoing measurement and framework to deliver even more value to the communities that sustain us.”
Alongside the commitment, Bishop Fleming has announced its latest annual partnerships with six regional charities that will receive fundraising and volunteering support for the next 12 months:
Bristol & Bath: Southmead Hospital Charity
Cheltenham: Longfield Community Hospice
Exeter & Torquay: FORCE Cancer Charity
Plymouth: St. Luke’s Hospice
Truro: Cornwall Hospice Care
Worcester: St Richard’s Hospice Foundation
Bishop Fleming plans to raise £75,000 for these charities through joint fundraising activities over the next 12 months, as well as increase investment in its people's volunteering time during the partnership period. The funds raised will directly support the efforts of these charities to continue their work.
Ewan McClymont, Head of Responsible Business at Bishop Fleming, added:
“We are delighted to announce our six new charity partnerships who will play a key role in our 1% for Communities ambition. Collaborating with our local communities is an integral part of the firm’s Responsible Business commitment, whether it’s through volunteering, fundraising, or raising awareness of the work these charities undertake.”
The selected charities make a significant difference in their local communities, and their commitment to their causes has garnered recognition and support from various organisations and individuals.
As a proactive member of Business in the Community, Bishop Fleming's decision to support these charities reflects its commitment to being a responsible business and making a measurable impact in the local community. This effort has helped result in its latest re-accreditation of being recognised as a Great Place to Work®.
